Patient Education

Patient education is individualized for the patient and family at National Jewish Health. Through individual instruction, group classes and educational materials, patients and families are taught self-management techniques. Equipped with important knowledge and tools, patients are able to participate in the management of their disease, reducing unnecessary physician and emergency room visits.

What About National Jewish Health Patient Education Classes?

National Jewish Health offers a variety of interactive classes to help patients and families learn self-management techniques. Classes are available for adults and children with a variety of chronic lung diseases. Family members are encouraged to attend the classes also. The classes are free for National Jewish Health patients. People from the community can attend the classes, although there is a charge.

What About National Jewish Health Understanding Booklets?

The Understanding Booklets are an educational health series provided by
National Jewish Health.The series is friendly, state-of-the-art and informative.
These include:

  • Understanding Atopic Dermatitis
  • Understanding COPD

Patients will receive copies of Understanding Booklets of interest. Single copies of Understanding Booklets are also available at no cost to the general public and healthcare providers. What About the Asthma Wizard Activity Book?

The Asthma Wizard Activity Book is a fun and informative way for children ages 5 – 12 to The Asthma Wizard Activity Book learn about asthma. Sixty- six pages of fun-filled games and activities will teach children about managing asthma including: peak flow monitoring, early warning signs, asthma symptoms triggers, medications and asthma action plan.

What About the Child Life Program?

The mission of the Child Life Program at National Jewish Health is to help children, teens, and family members cope with illness, treatment, and the overall healthcare experience. A trained Child Life Specialist can provide health education regarding illness, preparation for medical procedures, distraction during painful procedures, developmentally appropriate play and recreation, creative arts, and emotional support for patients and families.
